Mariana the Mermaid
Back in 2021, I stepped out of my comfort zone and did a couple of streams of myself working on this on RPAN (Reddit Public Access Network). It was a really fun experience. She was named Mariana by one of the viewers in the stream.
I really miss RPAN. It got me through a lot of the pandemic. I haven’t found a streaming environment with quite the same vibe, since. It was great for exploring cool streams and having random people stumble in. Tiktok Lives captured some of that sense of random discovery, but they require a certain amount of followers to be able to stream, and I didn’t feel like trying to build a following through video content. Twitch doesn’t have the same sense of random discovery at all; it seems to be more focused on building your network to cross promote. I’ve thought about looking into YouTube streaming, but it’s not like I have much time for art these days, let alone to stream it.
I miss just sitting around doing art and chatting with whoever happened to stumble in. That was nice.
